Our Saturday Hike

Whenever possible, we love taking the pack hiking. Today, we woke up at 7:45 AM and got everyone ready for the day!

Anderson Lake County Park  was our destination today! After a short drive from San Jose, we arrived. Since it was a new place, we did not know what exactly to expect, but were excited to explore a new area!

The main trail was nice, flat, and paved (more like a leisurely walk then a hike). The heavy traffic of dog walkers, joggers, and bikers made it tough for Rosie to walk, because we were unsure of how safe it would be. Rosie ended up staying in the backpack most of the way. The goal was to make it to the lake!

After walking for a bit, we stumbled upon a narrow dirt trail that had more shade and less traffic. We were able to let the dogs off leash and Rosie was able to walk for a bit here. It turned out that the trail would lead back to San Jose, had we kept walking, so we turned back around. In an exciting turn of events, we saw a turkey! We quickly leashed the dogs, so they would not be tempted to chase it. As soon as the turkey saw us, it made a run for it, and flew onto a tree! We did not know turkeys could fly!

Another dirt path led to a huge open field that was completely empty! The dogs got to run out all of their energy, play together, and Rosie got to walk around and sniff the flowers.

After everyone was tired from running around, we took some more pictures!

At this point, we felt the temperature rising and decided to head back. Whilst on our trek back to the parking lot, we ran into a wild boar on the main trail! As often as we go hiking, we’ve never seen one of these! It was bigger and scarier than we thought boars would be. Luckily, the boar just bolted across the trail and back into the woods. It had to have been over 5 feet tall.

We finally made it back to the parking lot, where we loaded up, and headed back home. We never made it to the lake, but had a pretty satisfying hike. Everyone had a great time and seeing the wildlife was more interesting than usual.

  4. Thanks for sharing your latest adventure. Yes, turkey’s can fly; just not too far or for long. They roost in trees at night to be safe from predators too. Can’t wait to see you next outing.
