1) What breed is Rosie?
Our number one frequently asked question! Rosie is not any specific breed. She was a rescue and her origins may never be known. If we had to guess, we would say she is a Maine Coon Mix. Possibly even a Siberian Cat of some sort. Both breeds exhibit dog-like behaviors and take well to being leash trained. Many kittens are highly trainable though, and would make great adventure buddies!
2) How do I get my dog and cat to get along?
The easiest way for a dog and cat to get along, is by giving them their own space. Dogs will lash out when they are defending their own food, bed, or territory. Cats will lash out when they feel endangered, or a strange animal has entered their territory. So if you are bringing home a new dog or cat, be sure to give them each their own space until they acclimate to each other. We have baby gates up around the areas where the cats eat and where the litter box is set up so the cats have a getaway area. Setting up boundaries will also teach your dog to respect space and give the cats a safe place. We have a 10 year old cat who has been living with the dogs for 4 years, and she still hates them. But she will tolerate them in the same room up until a 2 foot radius. So often times, you also have to take into account age and personality, as well as the space factor. Younger animals are able to adapt much better but to coexist is the next best thing!
